Sustainability is not just a trend,
it is our way of caring:

As you know all of our jewellery designs are made exclusively of the tagua nut and today I would like to tell you a few curious facts from this fantastic material that comes from the ivory palm trees in the genus Phytelephas, native of the rain forest of South America.

*The tagua nut is edible while it is ripe. It has a mild and sweet taste and as its consistence hardens dramatically when it dries after a few weeks or months it resembles ivory, that is where it’s also known as vegetable ivory!
*They are unique! Each Tagua nut has its own subtle pattern. Making it especially apt for making of our unique jewellery designs.
*Tagua nuts are porous just as wood, that is why they are easily dyed with natural and edible dyes.
*Tagua nut is not waterproof but can easily be polished with natural waxes. It also brightens up its natural look, because, well who does not like a bit of care.
*At one time The United States army used tens of thousands of Tagua buttons on their uniforms. Unfortunately, with the advent of plastics, Tagua fell out of favour because it became more expensive than its artificial counterpart. A choice has had a great impact in our global environment.
*Tagua nuts were used originally by indigenous people where it grew naturally, in their everyday for feeding, the making of artefacts, tools and jewels.
*Today the use of the tagua nut helps to sustain the Amazon rain forest because the commercial value of Ivory Nut Palm is so good that farmers are keeping their forests to continue to provide the product in the future.
*We work exclusively and directly with independent artisans in Ecuador and Colombia, ensuring that they receive a fair and just price for their work, while thriving in a healthy and safe environment.
*Please help us to spread awareness and appreciation of tagua nut and its native environment.
